The concept comes from Mario Melendez, the veteran owner behind Rasta Rita Margarita Truck, Rasta Rita Cantina and Venue, and Rasta Taco. Customers can expect specialty Caribbean cocktails, margaritas, rum punch, curated music, and a small bites menu.
Melendez has spent the past 15 years operating Rasta Rita food trucks throughout California. The new concept reflects a move into a permanent brick-and-mortar space after years on the road. Rather than positioning the bar as a tiki concept, Melendez is aiming for a broader Caribbean influence. The goal is to represent multiple regions and cultures throughout the Caribbean.
Rita Chiquita will draw inspiration from places such as Jamaica and the Bahamas, while avoiding a narrow focus on any one island. The space will be small, creating a more intimate bar setting along El Camino Real. Music will also play a role in the atmosphere, with a curated soundtrack tied to the Caribbean theme.
The beverage program will center on specialty Caribbean cocktails. Margaritas and rum punch are expected to anchor the menu, with beer offerings available in a more limited capacity at opening. Additional craft beer options may be introduced down the road as the concept evolves.
